Abstract

658,556. Valve gears. PLANTA, G. DE. March 28, 1949, No. 8348. [Classes 122(ii) and 122(iii)] A multi-cylinder compressed air operated engine has two sets 21, 22 of radially arranged supply and exhaust valves, one of each set of each cylinder. These valves are operated by cams 15, 16, for one direction and 17, 18 for the oppposite direction, on a shaft 6 driven by the crank shaft 2, and which can be moved axially to reverse the engine direction. Direction of motion is controlled by the valve M. In the position shown the conduit 36 is connected by exhaust, thus allowing line pressure on the piston P to hold the shaft to the left. When valve M is turned to admit line pressure to the conduit 36 the piston P is forced to the right.
