Abstract

658,362. Variable-speed gearing. HARLOW, W. F., and EDWARDS, R. W. May 23, 1949, No. 13731. [Class 80(ii)] [Also in Group II]. Gearing for rotating the cylindrical shell and screw conveyer of a centrifuge machine comprises a main driving pulley A driven from a first source of power, a driven shaft X for the rotating shell, a second driven shaft Y for the screw conveyer and an auxiliary driving pulley B driven from a second source of power. The pulley A and shafts X, Y are connected by a main epicyclic train of gears G, H, J which is controlled by a secondary train C, D, E, F from the pulley B. For equal speeds of the shafts X, Y the speed of pulley B is maintained equal to that of pulley A so that the trains rotate solid but if the speed of pulley B is altered a different speed is imparted to shaft Y depending upon the variation of the speed of pulley B.
