657,975. Adjusting radio apparatus. HOLSTENSSON, A. H. April 20, 1949, Nos. 10466 and 10467. Convention dates, April 23, 1948. [Class 40 (v)] [Also in Group XXIV] A two-speed drive between a hand-knob 10, provided with a flywheel 9, and a spindle 30 of a radio-tuning capacitor, comprises a direct-reduced planetary friction train driving a first intermediate spindle 8, which drives a second intermediate spindle 26 through a friction reducing-gear 24, 25, so that in either condition of the planet-train both the driving flywheel 9 and the reduction ratio of the friction-gear 24, 25 are always effective. The second intermediate spindle 26 drives the condenser-spindle 30 through a cord-pulley reducing-gear 27, 29, 28. The planet-gear comprises a planet-spindle carrying stepped planets 20, 22, Fig. 4, frictionally engaging respectively a sun 19 on the driving-knob spindle 7 and a larger sun 23 on the aligned first intermediate spindle 8, the end of which latter is formed as the friction wheel 24 of the second reductionstage 24, 25. The planet-carrier is formed of plates 11, 12, 13, 14, centred on the aligned spindles 7, 8 and axially spaced by three distance-rods 16, any one of which is adapted to be held by engagement with a notch 46, Fig. 1, in a stop.-plate 45 which is pivoted into or out of engagement for reduced or direct drive by an independent hand-knob 43, Fig. 2, an over-centre spring 49 being provided to hold the stop-plate in both positions. In the free-position, the friction of the sun and planet wheels 19 ... 23 is sufficient to overcome load resistance to produce solid drive in the planet-section of the gear. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 refers to Swedish Specification 86,183. This reference does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
