Abstract
Fresh natural rubber latex, preserved or not with ammonia is concentrated by adding both an organic colloidal creaming agent and a soap, then passing through a clarifier centrifuge and subsequently creaming. In an example, to fresh Malayan latex preserved with 1.25 per cent ammonia was added 0.2 per cent of ammonium oleate (based on the latex) and 0.08 per cent of ammonium alginate (based on the water) and the mixture then clarified by centrifuging and then creamed for two weeks. The strainability of the final creams is greater than in conventional processes in which either the soap or the creaming agent is added after the clarifying. The alginate may be replaced by Karaya gum, Irish moss, locust bean gum or carob seed gum, and the soap may be any alkali soap of a fatty acid having 8-24 carbon atoms or abietic acid.
