Abstract
502,470. Creaming latex. JACKSON, L. MELLERSH-. (United States Rubber Co.) Dec. 8, 1938, No. 35867. [Class 70]. The creaming of latex with vegetable mucilage is accelerated by the addition to the latex of a small amount, preferably not more than 1 per cent based on the water phase of the latex, of animal or fish glue, gelatine, or isinglass, or the like. Vegetable mucilages specified are alginates such as ammonium alginate, Carrageen moss, Iceland moss, gum tragacanth, karaya gum, water extracts of the locust or carob bean or of the seeds of the genera Cassia, Caesalpinia, or Poinciana or of the meal made from the plants of the genus Amorphophallus ; the amount of mucilage employed is usually not more than 1 per cent based on the water phase of the latex. The creaming may, in addition, be accelerated by other methods, e.g. by heating, by violently agitating immediately preceding creaming, or by the addition of soap in the case of freshly tapped latex.
