Abstract

551,646. Treating rubber latex. WALSH, C. L., and NEWMAN, A. A. Aug. 21, 1940, No. 13296. [Class 70] Rubber latex is mixed with a colloid of acid reaction derived from the flesh of vegetable matter such as plants of the Agave family or Phormium Tenax as described in Specifications 517,729 and 532,877. On standing a semicoagulated mass rises to the surface. The mass after separation of the serum may be again dispersed by treatment with ammonia or may be completely coagulated and rendered irreversible by kneading, rolling or other mechanical treatment. Fillers and vulcanizing agents may be added to the semi-coagulated mass. The colloid may be used in admixture with pectin or pectic substances, alginic acid or its salts, gelatinous substances extracted from seaweeds, laminariae, flax, hemp &c. or plant extracts normally used for creaming rubber latex. Specification 542,939 also is referred to.
