254,357. Oberrheinische Handelsges., and Ubbelohde, L. March 2, 1925. Fibres, roughening mechanically.-In a process for roughening fibres and for rendering them more suitable for spinning, roughening agents, such as powdered glass, powdered carborundum, and keiselguhr, are used in a wet or dry state and need not be completely removed before spinning. The roughening agents may be added at any stage in the manufacture of fibres and may be mixed with substances favouring adhesion such as a greasing agent. Substances having less sharp edges such as silica gel may be used. The process is applicable to all usual fibres of animal and vegetable origin and examples are mentioned.
