Abstract
538,544. Creaming rubber latex. WALSH, C. L., and NEWMAN, A. A. June 7, 1940, Nos. 10004 and 12693. [Class 70] The gel obtained by precipitating with acids or acid salts the solution prepared by crushing and extracting with alkali plants such as sisal, aloe, Agave &c. is dissolved in alkali and the solution used to facilitate the creaming of latex. The creaming of the mixture may be hastened by submitting it to agitation before allowing it to stand or by passing a direct or alternating electric current between electrodes immersed in the mixture. Vulcanizing or loading ingredients such as sulphur, zinc oxide, zinc dimethyl-dithiocarbamate &c. may be admixed with the latex. The rate of creaming may also be increased by addition of salts such as borax, trisodium phosphate or sodium or ammonium citrate or tartrate or of organic acids such as citric or tartaric acid. Separation may be effected by centrifuging.
