Abstract
510,138. Naphthacetyl-amino acids. HOFFMANN-LA ROCHE & CO. AKT.-GES., F. Jan 10, 1939, No. 797. Convention date, Feb. 2, 1938. [Class 2 (iii)] alpha-Naphthacetyl-amino acids are obtained by treating alkaline solutions of alpha-amino acid with alpha-naphthylacetyl halides, followed by treatment with acid to set free the desired acids. The free acids may be purified in various ways. The examples describe the treatment of glycine, 1-leucine and sarcosine with alpha-naphthylacetyl chloride. The acid chloride may be formed bv treating alpha-naphthylacetic acid with thionyl chloride. The. products may be used to stimulate the growth of plants and in striking cuttings, or as dissolving agents, e.g., an aqueous solution of a salt thereof may be used to dissolve cresols or alpha-tocophenol.
