Abstract

Ortho-oxyquinoline or its derivatives, salts, or homologues is used for treating seeds, cuttings, potatoes, onions or other tubers or bulbs to be planted, and the roots of transplanted plants so as to prevent attack by bacteria and fungi but to stimulate nitrogen bacteria in the soil. The active substance may be used dry or in solution or mixed with other substances. Preparations referred to in examples are: (1) citrate of methyl-8-oxy-quinoline and kaolin; (2) the potassium salt of methyl - 8 - oxyquinoline - 5 - sulphonic acid and plaster; (3) an aqueous solution of o-oxyquinoline sulphate; (4) any salt of oxyquinoline or its substituted products followed by a coating of an inert substance.
