Abstract
Paints for ships' bottoms contain mercuric selenocyanate Hg(SeCN)2 or a compound of the type R[Hg(SeCN)3] in which R is an alkali metal or a basic radical, such as ammonium, pyridine, aniline.ALSO:Seed and other materials are disinfected and preserved by treating the material with mercuric seleno cyanate Hg(SeCN)2 or a compound of the type R[Hg(SeCN)3] in which R is an alkali metal or a basic radical such as ammonium, pyridine, aniline. In order to obtain solutions of the difficultly soluble mercuric seleno cyanate solutions of ammonium chloride or potassium nitrate are employed as solvents. The above compounds may also be used as insecticides or may be incorporated in paints for ships' bottoms.
