Abstract

Enzymes.-A solution of an enzyme is treated with a neutral salt, such as common salt, sodium sulphate, or potassium chloride, and a precipitate which carries down the enzyme is then produced in the solution by adding a water-soluble salt of an aromatic sulphonic acid, such as sodium naph. thalene-a-monosulphonate, preferably in the form of a solution saturated with respect to the neutral salt previously added. A slight precipitate may be produced in the salt-saturated solution, as by means of calcium chloride and sodium phosphate, prior to the addition of the sulphonic acid salt. Examples describe the treatment of extracts of malt and of the pancreas gland. The treatment of an enzyme solution obtained as described in Specification 16198/14 also is referred to.
