520,753. Photographic developers. I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE AKT.-GES. Oct. 31, 1938, No. 31432. Convention date, Oct. 29, 1937. [Class 98 (ii)] A developer contains a water-soluble metaphosphate or pyrophosphate and a nitrogenous poly-carboxylic acid or water-soluble salt thereof, to prevent the precipitation of lime salts in the solution, and the production of lime fog. Examples comprise a metol developer containing sodium hexa-meta-phosphate and trimethylamine-dicarboxylic acid, a metol-hydroquinone developer containing sodium hexa-meta-phosphate and tetramethyl-diaminoethane-tetracarboxylic acid, and a hydroquinone-borax developer including sodium citrate and containing sodium hexa-meta-phosphate and di-#:#<SP>1</SP>-methylaminodiethylamine-dicarboxlic acid. An alkali salt of the acid may be used. Specifications 471,922 and 496,252 are referred to.
