542,091. Concentrating latex. REVERTEX, Ltd., and AUSTEN, S. Aug. 16, 1940, No. 13121. [Class 70] Latices of rubber, gutta-percha and balata to be concentrated are mixed with more than 500 milli-equivalents of a volatile alkaline stabilizer per kilogram, allowed to stand until maximum stability is attained (exceeding 48 hours), the sludge or sediment is separated and the latex concentrated by evaporation, the stabilizer, which may be ammonia or ethylene diamine, being recovered for re-use. A small quantity of other stabilizers, such as saponified oils, e.g. potash soaps or ammonium oleate, may also be added. The apparatus described in Specification 461,216 may be used for the concentration.
