Abstract
657,851. Transformers and inductances. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd, March 10, 1949, No. 6587. Convention date. March 13, 1948. [Class 38 (ii)] The laminated core of a transformer or inductance is clamped by a resilient sheet metal member wedged between the winding and core and having a pair of legs extending beyond the core edge for attaching the clamp and coil assembly to a supporting member. In a ballast unit for two discharge lamps the core 4 of an auto-transformer 2 formed of E and I laminations is clamped by a pair of crimped sheet metal members 13 wedged between the coil 3 and core 4 and each choke 1 comprises a winding 8 on the centre leg of an E-shaped core 10 clamped by a pair of E- shaped sheet metal members 14 crimped across the centre leg and the back limb with the outer legs 15 of the E extended beyond the core and eventually welded to the outer laminations of the transformer core when the required gap between the cores of the auto-transformer and choke is obtained which gap may be filled with a cement. The clamps may be formed from lamination steel.
