Abstract
684,286. Transformers and inductances. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. .Dec. 27, 1950 [Dec. 31, 1949], No. 31382/50. Class 38 (ii). A laminated magnetic structure 1 of the type having a core 2 provided with a plurality of laminated legs 3, 4, 5, at least one of which has an air gap-such as 7-and at least one of the core laminations, e.g. 9, bridging the air gap, is provided with means for clamping the free ends of the laminations separated by the air gap to the gap bridging lamination so that the effective free length of the gap bridging lamination 9 is reduced to a minimum. The clamping means may be in the form of deformed outer laminations 12 which apply transverse forces, when enclosed in a coil former 16, to the laminations on each side of the air gap and immediately adjacent thereto. Alternatively the outer laminations may not be deformed, the transverse forces being applied by means of wedges between coil former and the core laminations. When no coil winding surrounds the core legs the clamping means may take the form of a nut and bolt.
