Abstract

657,504. Woven fabrics having pile formed by hooks. STEVENS, A. H. (Libertyville Textiles, Inc.). Aug. 10, 1948, No. 21077. [Classes 142(ii) and 142(iii)] Pile is formed in a woven fabric by hooks 110 set at an angle to the pile warp threads and which, when moved rearwards, move the threads laterally and pass below them. The hooks subsequently move forward to form the looped pile. The picking and the shedding mechanisms, the dobbyhead and a warp tensioning device are as described in Specification 655,730. The pile may be cut by knives 118 operated by a member positioned above them. This member is moved by the mechanism described in Specification 655,730 for turning the hooks for engagement with the pile warp threads. If the loops are not cut the pile warp is preferably twisted so that, when the needles are withdrawn, a pile of twisted loops is obtained.
