Classes 142(i) and 142(ii) A fabric is cut while on the loom by a knife that is guided between the warp threads by a device woven into the fabric and which causes the knife to move laterally to follow any deviation of the warp threads from their normal path. A knife 31, mounted to slide on a shaft 35, is guided by a slotted guide 28 which is woven into the fabric and secured by a cord 27 to a stationary part of the loom. The cord 27 passes through one of the healds and is shed with the warps. The cord may be made of nylon. Binding or selvedge forming warp threads 21, 22 and 23, 24 may be provided on one or both sides of the knife. These threads are twisted by twisting discs 19, 20. The knife, which may be situated anywhere between the lay and the take-up roll, may be oscillated by a cam mounted on the main drive shaft or on an auxiliary rotating shaft. The return movement of the knife is effected by a spring. In an alternative construction, the knife may be oscillated by a solenoid 51, pivotally mounted to permit lateral movement of the knife.
