Abstract

387,709. Circular looms. BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd., 22, Hanover Square, London, DICKIE, W. A. and HOWARTH, W., c/o British Celanese, Spondon, near Derby. Aug. 11, 1931, No. 22713. [Class 142 (ii).] A circular loom is provided with a spool-holding shuttle, which extends to and presses against the fell of the fabric so as to beat up the weft, and a comb for controlling the spacing of one sheet of warps, the shuttle being provided with means to guide the weft, round the teeth of the comb to the fell of the fabric. A shuttle 4, formed to rest on the fell of the fabric 12 within the shedded warps 9, 10, is adapted to carry a spool 6 from which weft is led through a passage 30 to a guide eye at the base of the shuttle and is formed with a slot 21 to receive an annular warp spacing comb 23, the teeth of which project beyond the normal warp line 8. The comb 23 may be used in conjunction with a second comb 25 similarly mounted and adapted to control the other sheet of warps and each comb may be made in one piece or in two or more sections suitably connected. The shuttle may be held stationary, during rotation of the warps and the spacing means, by means of rotating vaned discs 15 which engage freely mounted flanged rollers 18 on the shuttle body, or it may be caused to rotate to increase the effective rate of weaving. The shedding may be effected by means of healds or by a suitably shaped reed and rotating discs which press against the warp. The Provisional Specification also describes the arrangement of the let-off, take-up and shedding mechanism for a circular loom and refers to a feeler member for effecting stoppage of the loom on warp breakage.
