Abstract

547,864. Looms. CALICO PRINTERS' ASSOCIATION, Ltd., and CURTIS, N. July 8, 1941. No. 8611. [Class 142 (ii)] A device to enable an ordinary or Lancashire loom to weave uncut pile cloth comprises feed rollers f, g between which the pile warp threads a pass and which are rotated by pawl and ratchet mechanism h, i from the slay sword c. The slack pile threads are carried forward by the reed and form loops 2 at the fell of the cloth at beat-up. A check pawl is provided to prevent over-running of the ratchet h, and a spring- controlled brake-band r is arranged around the feed roller f so that the spring t tensioned during the feeding of the thread rotates the roller f and ratchet h to bring a tooth of the ratchet wheel against the check pawl j. A brake-band n is also arranged around the beam ruffle m, and is secured at one end to a lever p carrying rods z over and under which the pile warp threads pass, the arrangement being such that during feeding of the threads, the brake-band is released from the ruffle, and when the feeding is completed the brakeband is reapplied. The pawl i can be raised from engagement with its ratchet wheel h by a connection y to the loom dobby mechanism.
