[Class 142 (ii)] A Terry loom is provided with means for limiting the amount of warp to be drawn off the terry beam at each effective stroke of the lay and with means for varying the spacing of the loose picks from the fell of the fabric according to the tension of the terry warp. In the arrangement shown, excessive tension resulting from excessive consumption of terry warp displaces the back terry roller 10 and its supporting levers 11 thereby allowing a slide 13 to drop and impart a clockwise movement to a lever 16. The latter, acting through a rod 17 and lever 18, moves a pawl 20 towards the front of the loom and away from a pin 21 on toggle mechanism 22, 23, which connects the lay to the crank shaft, so as to delay the engagement of the pin 21 by the pawl 20 when the latter is raised by the action of a cam 36. The stroke of the lay is thus increased, the spacing of the wefts and the length of pin reduced and the roller 10 gradually repositioned. The means for limiting the warp let off during the weaving of terry comprises a free wheel device 34 connected to the take-up roller and to the roller 7 over which the terry warp passes. When a fabric without loops is to be woven, the cam operated lever 37 controlling the pawl 20 is disabled by a Jacquard controlled pawl 40, the slide 13 is held by a serrated block 15 and an upward movement of the roller 10 causes a brake 28 to be applied to the roller 7.
