Abstract

The selvedge of a woven fabric is locked by inserting two weft yarns (1,2) simultaneously into the warp (5) using e.g. pivoting needles (3,4). One weft yarn (1) is formed into a loop (1') at the edge of the warp (5) and re-inserted into the warp (5). The other weft yarn (2) passes through the loop (1') and is knitted by a latch needle (6) to form a line of stitching along the edge of the warp (5) to form a locked edge.
