Abstract

A fabric for making inflatable articles is woven on a double plush loom in such a way that the two base fabrics can be separated to a spacing greater than that at which they are woven. The warp threads that cross from one base fabric to the other to determine the final spacing of the base fabrics are looped over and under intermediate scaffolding weft threads of soluble material so as to take a zigzag path. The scaffolding thread are supported by interweaving them with the ground warp threads of the base fabrics, or with additional warp threads which also subsequently dissolve out, or with warpwise wires off which the fabric slides as it is taken up in the loom.
