Abstract

655,788. Lubricating. POTTS, F. C. (Jewett, Mead & Brown). Nov. 23, 1948, No. 30347. [Class 12 (iii)] A journal lubricator comprises a felt body 19 having a thickened portion 22 providing an arcuate surface 23 for contact with the journal to be lubricated, and a holder 20 for the felt body having lateral flanges of less height than the thickness of the portion 22, the felt body 19 having a portion extending beyond the holder to form a depending wick 45. Three such units are mounted on a base 28 by means of pins 37 thereon engaging holes 39 in the base 28, and the base is slidingly supported on the side walls 31, 32 of a member 27 which is secured by studs 42 to the wall 16 of a journal box 10. The felt pads 19 are pressed into contact with the surface of a shaft 11 by springs 34 disposed between the base 28 and the member 27. A hole 41 is provided in the top of each carrier 20 for engagement with a tool, whereby the carrier and felt body may be withdrawn from the journal box.
