Lubricating passages or channels and reservoirs in bearings.-In a shaft bearing of the kind having a cavity in the bearing-cap for the reception of lubricant and packing, the packing consists either of a solid plate or a sheetmetal receptacle c, formed with one or more holes d through which the lubricant passes to the shaft, placed loosely in a cavity c, and so arranged that adjustment of the bearing to take up wear does not alter the contact of the packing-member with the shaft. To regulate the flow of lubricant, the hole or holes d may be obstructed more or less by movable plates g resting against one or both sides of the receptacle c; or strips or frames may be placed on the floor of the receptacle for the same purpose.
