Abstract

543,115. Axle boxes; lubricating. STEER, G. K. April 18, 1941, No. 5053. [Classes 12 (i) and 12 (iii)] A pit-tub pedestal c has an axle-embracing reservoir e for lubricant conveyed to the axle by means suspended in the reservoir, the conveying means consisting of pads h mounted on a carrier j resiliently suspended from the end walls of the reservoir and held in contact with the side walls and the axle. The carrier comprises a plate slotted from opposite edges to form lugs some of which carry the pads whilst the remainder carry the supporting springs k. The reservoir is secured by bolts f passing through the cheeks d of the pedestal c. The pedestal bearing may be grooved at n to collect lubricant from the axle.
