Abstract

655,228. Pantographic apparatus. NAPIER & SON, Ltd., D. Oct. 21, 1948, No. 27373. [Class 97 (iii)] Optical-projection graticule gauges, images of which are to be projected on to a screen for comparison with the form of the article to be gauged are made by preparing a master drawing of substantially larger scale than that of the graticule to be produced and reproducing this drawing to the correct scale in the form of a scratched line constituting the graticule upon the surface of a projection slide of hard transparent material by means of a pantographic apparatus whose follower is in the form of a stylus capable of scratching a fine line on the transparent material of the slide. As shown, the apparatus comprises a base B having mounted therein an outer boss C<SP>1</SP> carrying a radial arm C<SP>2</SP>. Mounted within an eccentric bore in the boss C<SP>1</SP> is an inner boss D provided with a radial arm D<SP>2</SP>. An eccentric bore D3 whose axis is displaced from the axis of the inner boss D by the same distance as the axis of the outer boss D is displaced from the axis of the outer boss C<SP>1</SP> is formed in the inner boss D and has mounted therein a solenoid through which passes a stylus H. A bar E carrying at its outer end E<SP>2</SP> a tracing point is pivoted to the outer end of the arm C<SP>2</SP> and a link F connects an intermediate point of the arm E with the outer end of the arm D<SP>2</SP>. Energizing the solenoid causes the stylus point to be brought to bear with the desired pressure on the slide on which the graticule is to be traced. When tracing on glass slides a diamond stylus point is used. Alternatively the solenoid may be connected to lift the stylus from the slide in which case tracing contact is maintained by the weight of the stylus.
