Abstract
487,710. Surface gauges. SHAW, H. March 25, 1937, No. 8746. [Class 106 (ii)] Comprises a construction of apparatus for determining the roughness or unevenness of surfaces in which errors due to slides or prints, and to inaccuracies of the setting of the work surface relatively to the tracer path are eliminated. The rider D or D<1> which contacts with the surface A to be gauged or with a guide surface A<1> approximately parallel to it is carried by a tubular member B pivoting by means of a ligament F. Pivoted by a ligament E inside the member B is a lever C, one end of which carries a tracer or stylus while the other carries a mirror L reflecting a pencil of light HJK on to a photographic plate or film M.
