Abstract

653,945. Carding engines. WIED, C. A. Nov. 9, 1948, No. 29077. [Class 120(i)] [Also in Group XXVIII] The doffer roll 12, Fig. 1, and garnett cylinder 11 of a conventional garnett machine are cleaned by a reciprocating head 15 comprising a brush 61, Fig. 9, the bristles 67 of which surround a compressed air nozzle 63 and a laterally displaced suction nozzle 65 for removing freed material. The head 15 is mounted in an opening 115, Fig. 3, of a carriage 20 which is reciprocated along the length of the machine by known double-threaded worm gearing, and is itself mounted on a frame comprising parallel rods 17, 18 and end plates 19 pivoted on pins 28 supported by members 22 which are vertically adjustable in slotted members 21 bolted to the worker roll supporting rings 23. In a modification a contact roller mounted between lateral flanges of the suction nozzle on the opposite side to the brush maintains the nozzle at the correct working distance.
