699,861. Combing-machines. HINSON, O. C. July 28, 1947 [Jan. 4, 1945], No. 15626/50. Divided out of 699,851. Class 120(i) In a combing-machine including a combing cylinder, means for feeding a supply of fibres to the cylinder, and a detaching roll rotating on a fixed axis and driven to detach tufts of fibre combed from the supply and to feed them back for piecing up by overlapping successive tufts. means are provided for creating a current of air in the direction of and along the tufts being fed back and for shielding the fedback tufts from contact with the combing cylinder and parts thereon. In the machine described in Specification 699,851. the end of the recoiling combed tuft at feed-back is held against the surface of detaching roll 7 and then caused to pass between the wall of a housing 9 and a baffle 139, so that it is shielded from the combing cylinder 1. by an induced waste-removing airdraught passing through holes 261 in a channel member 255 running the length of the machine frame and connected to a suction fan delivering to a waste receptacle. To determine the percentage of waste removed by any combing head, a wire screen 272 is inserted over the corresponding hcle 261 and the weight of waste caught thereby is compared with the weight of stock fed to the machine in the same interval of time.
