Abstract

1305716 Break-spinning TMM (RESEARCH) Ltd 6 July 1970 [8 July 1969] 34331/69 Heading D1D A break-spinning machine comprises a spinning rotor 11, mounted for rotation on the shaft 12 of motor 13, fed with discrete fibres by a feed roller 25 and opening roller 27. The fibres pass from the opening roller 27 to the rotor 11 via a passage formed by ducts 14 and 29 whose length is greater than the mean fibre length i.e. greater than about two inches. Transfer of fibres is aided by suction applied at port 23. Access is gained to opening roller 27 by opening a front cover plate 41 mounted on a shaft 51 which also carries a cam 43. The opening movement turns cam 43 allowing brake arms 44 and 45 to come together and grip a brake drum on the opposite end of a motor shaft 39 which carries the opening roller 27. Similarly removal of the rotor front cover 15 which involves releasing a catch (32) Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown) turns a cam 36 and applies brake arms 37 and 38 to a drum on the motor shaft 12. Yarn 20 is removed from the rotor through delivery duct 18 by delivery rollers 21 and 22. In an alternative embodiment Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown) needles 52a are implanted in the fibre collecting surface of the rotor and are angled in the direction of rotation.
