Abstract

1291104 Break spinners TMM (RESEARCH) Ltd 6 July 1970 [8 July 1969 (2)] 34329/69 and 34330/69 Headings DID and DIN In a break spinner, Fig. 3, fibres are fed from a sliver entering feed trumpet 24 by a feed roller 25 to an opening roller 27 from which they are directed via straight passage, lying in the same plane as the opening roller, formed of ducts 29 and 14 to the fibre collecting surface 19 of a spinning rotor 11 which may be provided with spikes (not shown). Yarn twisted from the fibres is withdrawn through delivery duct 18 by delivery rolls 21 and 22. Opening roller 27 and spinning rotor 11 are each carried on a motor output shaft. The opposite ends of which carry brake drums. Access is gained to the roller 27 and rotor 11 by means of covers 41 and 15 respectively removal of which actuates cams 43 and 36 to apply brake arms 44 and 45 and 37 and 38 respectively to the brake drums. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 7, the fibre feeding system and spinning system are housed in separate housings 105 and 122 respectively which are mounted for vertical sliding motion on pillars 104 and (103) held in their uppermost operative position by a pneumatic cylinder 139. In operation a feed roller 106 is driven by a chain 110 via an electro-magnetic clutch 112, an opening roller 116 by a belt 120 and the spinning rotor 123 by a belt 126. Lowering the housings disengages the respective drives and applies pairs of V formation brake shoes 150 and 151 to the roller and rotor pulleys respectively. In the lowered position also the lower housing disengages the upper housing which comes to rest on stops 149 and allows a front cover 128 to be opened for access to the spinning rotor. An "L" shaped lever (113), Fig. 6 (not shown) operates in combination with the delivery roller 106 against which it is biased by a spring (115).
