Abstract

1429559 Open-end spinning; dirt separation; openers F STAHLECKER and H STAHLECKER 7 June 1973 [28 June 1972] 27258/ 73 Headings D1D and D1N An apparatus for removing impurities from fibres fed from an opening means to a spinning rotor 2 of an open-end spinning unit, has a removal opening 9 located in the fibre transport path either at the opening means or between the opening means and the spinning rotor and removal means 10 adjacent thereto, the removal means including mechanical conveying means adjacent said opening 9 to receive impurities from said opening. The mechanical conveying means may be in the form of a bucket wheel 11, a compartmented disc or roller, a reciprocating rack rail, or a reciprocating or rotating compartmented conveyor belt. The walls of the compartments of the conveying means are preferably elastic whereby a sealing effect is achieved with the housing 7 adjacent the opening 9. The mechanical conveying means is connected to extraction means which preferably comprises a suction air duct 12 which may be associated with a duct 13 common to all units of the spinning machine. An air supply duct 16 may also be provided adjacent the opening 9 whereby sufficient air is drawn along feed path 8 to feed fibres to rotor 2. The quantity of air delivered by duct 16 is preferably adjustable. The dimensions of removal opening 9 are also preferably adjustable by provision of interchangeable and/or adjustable inserts 19 and 20 defining the opening 9. The interchangeable and/or adjustable inserts may be common to all units of the spinning machine. In the preferred embodiment, the bucket wheel 11 is mounted on a shaft 15 extending the length of the machine, and the wheel 11 comprises two plastics components fitted together on the shaft, one such wheel being provided for each spinning unit. The pockets of the removal means 10 may be cleaned by air streams or brushes. For ease of access to the various machinery components, the feed roll 4, opening roll 5 and removal means 10 may be pivoted for movement away from the rotor 2. The feed roll 4 and the removal means 10 may be drivingly coupled together. Alternatively, the feed roll 4 and opening roll 5 are pivotally mounted for movement away from the removal means 10 whereby access may be had to the removal means.
