Abstract
653,831. Pistons. LODER, J. Feb. 12, 1947, No. 4066. Convention date, April 4, 1941. Addition to 633,637. [Classes 122(i) and 122(ii)] In a piston according to the parent Specification which describes and claims a piston constituted by a thin cylinder and annular disc-like parts secured at their outer periphery to the cylinder so as to define chambers communicating with parts in the cylinder, the parts of the piston being made of thin metal of a low co-efficient of expansion, an inner tubular part is provided and a transverse partition therein to which is removably secured a bearing for the gudgeon pin of the connecting rod. A cylinder 1 has an inner tubular part 2 secured to the cylinder 1 by discs 3. A disc 11 is secured as by welding inside the tube 2 and carries a detachable bearing 12 for a gudgeon pin 13. The disc 11 may be replaced by a disc 21 as shown in Fig. 4, secured to the cylinder 1, and the tube 2 formed by suitably shaped members 24 integral with the discs 3. Alternatively the disc 11 may be formed by suitably shaped members integral with the discs 3 which also form the tube 2.
