Abstract
653,830. Discharge apparatus. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Oct. 25, 1948, No. 27720. [Class 39 (i)] In an assembly comprising a graphite anode screw-threaded on to a conducting support, resilient means are provided to prevent the anode becoming unscrewed. In Figs. 1 and 2, the internal boss 2 of a cupshaped anode 1 is screwed on to a lead-in rod 4. The inner end of an iron wire helix 5 is welded at 6 to the rod 4 and the outer end is given a reverse bend and engages the inner periphery of the anode 1. Any tendency of the anode 1 to unscrew will cause the outer end of the helix 5 to dig into the graphite surface and lock the anode against rotation. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the helix is wrapped around the internal boss with the curved end engaging the surface of the boss. In another form, Fig. 3 (not shown), a flat spring strip is used instead of the helix. In each assembly the locking or resilient member may be of material other than iron, for example, steel or molybdenum.
