Abstract

653,592. Thermionic valves. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL, Ltd. Oct. 25, 1948, No. 27676. Convention date, Oct. 28, 1947. [Class 39 (i)] The tongues 2 of a mica electrode-support 1 are bent down before insertion into the tube 3 so as to split the mica of these tongues into layers, so as to prevent the mica cracking along any of the lines I-I through the apertures for the electrodes. The support 1 is held between two dies with only the tongues projecting and a cylinder having an internal diameter equal to the minimum permissible tube diameter is forced down on to the tongues so as to bend them, Fig. 4 (not shown). The support may alternatively be square or rectangular, the corners of which are strained, or parts of the circumference of a mica disc may be strained to fit a rectangular or elliptic-section bulb.
