Abstract

653,412. Copy grinding. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT), Ltd. June 24, 1948, No. 16990. [Class 60] [Also in Group XXII] In a copy grinding machine for machining workpieces such as compressor or turbine blades. a table 15 holds the pattern 10 while a table 16 supports the workpieces 13, the table 15 being oscillated or reciprocated to traverse a tracer 9 while the table 16 is rotated past a grinding disc 11, and both tables are fed axially so that the disc 11 operates on the whole effective surface of a workpiece while the tracer scans the whole effective surface of the pattern. The table 15 is oscillated by means of a gear quadrant 25 engaging a rack 26 on an arm 27 reciprocated by means of a cam 29 mounted on a table 17 which is rotated by means of a worm shaft 20 which also rotates the table 16, the table 17 in this instance being rotated at four times the speed of the table 16. The grinding head 2 comprises a long arm 6 carrying the tracer and a short arm 7 carrying the grinding disc. The tracer is adjustable by means of a device 32 to control the depth of cut. More than one worktable may be provided.
