Abstract

829,035. Copy-milling. HAYES ENGINEERS (LEEDS) Ltd. Feb. 21, 1958 [Feb. 22, 1957], No. 6028/57. Class 83 (3). An hydraulically-controlled copying-machine tool for producing blades on an indexable workpiece 6, comprises a pattern 17 and tool-head 2 driven in unison, and a tracer 25 engaging the pattern, the axes of the pattern and tool-head being co-planar. Two milling-cutters 2, 3, for profiling opposite faces of rotor blades, are mounted on compound slides 13 adjustable angularly on separately-adjustable knees 11. Variable-speed gearing is provided to rotate each cutter and the associated pattern 17 at desired relative speeds. Each pattern is engaged by a tracer 25 mounted on a compound slide 22 and controlling transverse movements of the cutter. An hydraulic device 18 feeds each cutter towards the work. The cutters may consist of roughing and finishing cutters, and may each have one or more blades.
