Abstract

889,506. Gear-cutting. ERICSSON TELEPHONES Ltd. Sept. 12, 1958 [Sept. 17, 1957], No. 29183/57. Class 83 (3). A gear hobbing machine comprises transversely mounted cutter- and work-spindles 10, 11 and fluid-pressure means for producing the traverse and feed movements. The work 12, Fig. 2, is fed by rotating, at different speeds, a gear 14 splined to the shaft 10 and a gear 24 screw-threaded thereon. The gears 14, 24 are rotated at the same speed by worms 15, 23, the latter being mounted in a carriage 22 which can be moved by fluid-pressure means to give additional motion to the gear 24. The cutter is raised into the work to cutting depth, determined by a stop-screw 52, Fig. 4, by fluid pressure means 33a connected to an angularly adjustable bracket 21 by way of a lever 34 and a cam 35. The work is clamped by a fluid-pressure-operated pad 38 and a pad 39. Burrs are removed by an additional tool. The fluid-pressure means are supplied with fluid by hydraulic devices operated by pneumatically controlled means, flow valves being provided to determine the feeding speeds. Three such hobbing machines may be combined side by side in one machine and supplied automatically with workpieces. The Provisional Specification describes a machine in which the shaft 10 is fed directly by fluid-pressure means.
