[Class 141] A brassiÞre has a gap 4 formed in the seam between the breast cups 1, 2 above a base band 3, and has four elastic bands 6 , 7 or two bands, which cross and obliquely span the gap so that part of the pull of each shoulder strap 8, which may be formed as an integral part of each cup, is transmitted to the underbust zone of the opposite cup. The bands which span the gap may be inelastic in which case the elasticity may be introduced into the shoulder strap, or in connection thereto. In a modification the gap extends upwaidly from the base band and two inelastic tabs cross the gap obliquely and are connected to elastic bails which extend upwardly for connection to a shoulder strap, directly by stitching or by means of a stirrup member, and then downwardly for connection to the under side of the cup correspondingly to that shoulder strap. In a further modification, another gap is formed between the outer side of each breast cup and a back panel, and is spanned by one or more horizontal or oblique inelastic bands, or by one elastic insert, and the material forming the cups may be cut on the bias. The edges of the breast cups may overlap below the diamond shaped gap instead of being joined by a seam.
