[Class 141] A brassiere more especially for evening wear comprises two generally quadrilateral parts A, B, Fig. 1, joined along one edge C and relatively unstretchable along their lower edge and from their upper outward corners to the middle of the junction line C. The parts A, B do not extend laterally more than midway around the wearer's sides and have vertical supporting straps D, E, at the outer corners and others G, F, at the lower outer corners to produce a downward and outward pull. The threads of the material run in the direction of the arrows, i.e. substantially parallel with the bottom edges and from the upper corner to a point midway between the breasts on the line C. One or more of the shoulder straps E, D, may be detachable from the brassiere. The shoulder straps may be crossed at the back of the wearer and made attachable to loops at the lower ends of straps G, F, or one strap may be detached and the other passed behind the wearer's neck for attachment to the other corner of the brassiere. Another arrangement, Fig. 5, is for wear with a dress on which the band of material passing round the neck is connected to the bottom of the back opening of the dress. In this case the shoulder strap E is looped over the strap D and brought down for fastening to a loop H on the belt or corset. In a modification, Fig. 7, an additional piece of material is sewn to the supports at the points J, K, L, M. This form is to give additional support to the breasts, the material J, K, L, M lying under the breasts against the body, the edges J, K, L, K, furnishing additional reinforcement along the lines of pull.
