` BRASSIRE Filed May-18,` 1936 Patented Sept. Y 22, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE BRASSIRE tion of Illinois Application May 18, 1936, Serial No. 80,384
3 Claims.
The invention relates to improvements in brassires and has for its primary object the provision of an improved article of the character indicated which is of simple construction and highly efficient in use.
Another object of the invention is the provision of an article of the character indicated so constructed and. arranged as to perform its functions properly and readily conform to the body movements of the wearer.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which Fig. 1 is a front view of a brassire embodying the invention;
Fig. 2 an enlarged top plan View of looped straps and floating oblong ring employed for joining the front portions of the brassire together; and
Fig. 3 a sectional view taken substantially on line 3--3 of Fig. 2. Y
The embodiment of the invention illustrated in the drawing comprises the usual bust supporting members IU, shoulder straps II, and rear body strap I2 of any usual or desired construction or material for the purpose. At their lower edges the supporting members I 0 are provided with reinforcing bands I3 in the form of ribbons or strips stitched to the inner sides thereof. At their upper edges the members I0 are provided with narrow hems I4 which thus constitute also reinforcing bands at these points. At their front edges the supporting members I0 are loosely joined together by means of two looped elastic straps I5 having their ends secured as shown to the reinforcing bands I3 and I4 and both of said straps passing freely through a oating oblong ring I6 as shown. The sides of the looped straps I5 are arranged in outwardly divergent relation so that the lower reinforcing band of each supporting member, one side of each looped strap and the upper reinforcing band of the other supporting member are brought into substantial alignment as shown.
By this arrangement a brassire is provided which is of simple construction and highly efiicient in use. The arrangement joining the front edges of l the bust supporting members causes them to fit and conform properly to the body of the wearer while permitting free and proper movements. The diagonal pulling action produced by the alignment of the upper and lower reinforcing bands with the strap ends has a tendency to properly confine and hold the busts in position. The specic form and arrangement of parts constitutes a simple and effective one for the purpose.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying the invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I therefore do not wish to be limited to the precise details disclosed but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as fall within the scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A brassire comprising two bust supporting members associated with means for securing the same on the body of the wearer, each of said supporting members being provided at the front with a looped elastic strap; and. a floating oblong ring located between the front edges of said supporting members and both of said looped straps passing freely therethrough.
2. A brassire comprising two bust supporting members having reinforcing bands at their upper and lower edges and associated with means for securing the same about the body of the wearer, each of said supporting members being provided at the front with a looped elastic strap having its end attached to said reinforcing bands; and a iioating oblong ring located between the front edges of said supporting members and both of said looped straps passing freely therethrough.
3. A brassire comprising two bust supporting members having reinforcing bands at their upper and lower edges and associated with means 40 for securing the same on the body of the wearer, each of said supporting members being provided at the front with a looped elastic strap having its ends attached to said reinforcing bands, the reinforcing band on the lower edge of each sup- 45 porting member, one side of each looped strap and the reinforcing band on the upper edge of the other supporting member being arranged in substantial alignment; and a floating oblong ring located between the front edges of said supporting members and both of said looped straps passing freely therethrough.
