Abstract

652,016. Textile spinning &c. spindles. ABBOTT MACHINE CO. Oct. 5, 1948, No. 25954. Convention date, Dec. 10, 1947. [Class 120(ii)] [Also in Group XXXV] Textile spinning or twisting spindle apparatus comprises a non-rotating spindle, a bobbin support rotatable about the spindle, spaced bearings on the spindle for the bobbin support, a stator winding of an electric motor disposed below the lower bearing and a rotor element connected to the bobbin support and surrounding the stator winding. The spindle 21 may be rigidly mounted in a spindle rail 22, or may be mounted in a vibration absorbing unit consisting of a rubber annulus 21c vulcanized to steel sleeves 21a, 21b secured to the spindle rail by a nut 21d. Bearings 26, 27 rest on shoulders on the spindle 21 and are arranged to facilitate removal of the bobbin holder 28. Annular laminations 40 are secured to upper and lower copper end rings 42, 43 and to a flange 28b of the bobbin holder 28. Alternatively, the bobbin holder may have an enlarged portion extending over the sides of the laminations 40 and available .as a braking surface. The stator includes laminations 30 fitted into the spindle 21 and slotted to receive windings 32.
