To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ED\VARD E. BRADLEY, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Stonington, in the county of New London and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Spinning Machines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in spinning machines with the object in view of providing a machine having a plurality of individual electric motor driven spindles and a separate electric motor driven take up mechanism, the motors for the spindles and the motor for the take up mechanism being synchronized.

The main frame, of which one vertical standard is shown, is denoted by 1, the spindle rails supported thereon by 2, the take up spools by 3 and their driving drums by 4. The" shafts 5 of the driving drums are journaled in the frame 1, and geared together by gears 5*. One of the shafts 5 is provided with a driving gear 6 which receives its motion from an electric motor 7 through a worm 8 on the shaft 9 of the motor, which worm meshes with a wormwheel 10 having a gear 11 formed integral therewith and loosely mounted on a stud 12 fixed on the frame. An intermediate gear 13 is adjustably mounted on a. bracket 14 carried by the frame and meshes with the gear 11 and the gear 6. The motor 7 is carried by a bracket 15 extendinglaterally from the frame 1.
Each spindle comprises the step 16 flexibly mounted on the spindle rail 2 and the blade 17 rotatably mounted in the step.

The blade 17 is provided with a hollow downwardly directed shield 22 which surrounds the upwardly projecting portion 20 of the step, and whlch carries an armature 23 and commutator ring 24 of the electric motor. The commutator bushes 25 are carried by the ring portion 18 of the step.
The spindle rail 2 has a hole 26 through which the portion 21 of the step projects. Cushion washers 27 and 28 are provided at the top and bottom of the hole 26 surrounding the portion 21. A coil spring 29 is located between the washer 28 and a nut 29* which is screwed onto the end of the portion 21.
The main circuit cable is denoted by 30, and the cables to the spindle driving motors by 31 and the cable to the take up roll driving motor by 32.
The electric motors for all of the spindles are connected in series and synchronized so that the spindles may be driven at the same speed; any well known or approved means for accomplishing this result being utilized.
The take up roll driving motor 7 is synchronized with the spindle driving motors, but the motor 7 will, of course, be driven at a much slower speed than the spindle driving motors to ensure the proper twist to the thread passing from the spindles to the take up rolls.
The electric motor driven spindle mechanism shown and described but not specifically claimed herein, is the subject matter of my co-pending application for patent Serial No. 266322 filed December 11, 1918.
While I have shown my invention in connection with a take up feed roll mechanism it is obvious my invention could be equally well applied to a delivery feed roll mechanism.
What I claim is:
In a spinning machine, individual electric motor driven spindles, means coacting with said spindles for self balancing them, and electric motor driven feed rolls, the motors for the spindles and feed rolls being synchronized.
