Abstract
651,779. Road-traffic signals on vehicles. TURK, W. F. May 12, 1947, No. 12722. [Class 118 (ii)] In a traffic warning signalling device for vehicles wherein the indicator is projected longitudinally from a casing 10 by means of a solenoid 14 and returned to the concealed position by a spring 16, the solenoid 14, when energized, attracts the core 15 which slides in guide tube 13 and causes the indicator 12, to which it is attached by non-magnetic member 15a, to be projected into the visible position shown dotted. A pin 13a, fixed to the core 15 and moving along slots 13b in the guide tube 13, compresses spring 16 between plates 17, 17 and the indicator is thereby restored when the solenoid is de-energized. A resilient buffer 18 is mounted on the inner end of casing 10. Contact 38 on the movable plate 17 engages fixed contact 39 when the indicator is operated and causes a lamp to light on a switchboard mounted adjacent to the driver of the vehicle. Alternatively, an audible signal may be given. An ammeter 30 and lamp 33 (Fig. 7, not shown) show whether the indicator solenoid is in or out of circuit. The indicator arrow is fitted with luminous reflectors 19 which may be replaced by lamps. In Fig. 3 (not shown), lamps 23 are provided within the casing to illuminate the indicator when operated. Figs. 8-13 inclusive (not shown) are rear views of a road vehicle, each displaying a '' left," " right," or " stop'' signal according to the invention. The indicators are in individual casings but two or more may be mounted in a further, common casing. Casings with an indicator each end are illustrated in Figs. 14-17 inclusive (not shown).
