Abstract

451,176. Road - traffic signals on vehicles. BRANDWOOD, J., 18, Saunders Street, Southport, Lancashire, O'CONNELL, J., 131, Nicolas Road, Chorlton-cum-Hardy, Manchester, and HALLS, W., 77, Adswood Lane West, Stockport. Jan. 29, 1935, No. 2868. [Class 118 (ii)] The switch for operating direction signals is electrically locked in operated position and released by operation of a pedal such as the brake or clutch. The electric locking means may be in the same circuit as the signal or in a separate circuit which may include the stop light. As shown in the Figures, when the pedal 4 is depressed, the plunger switch 6 closes the circuit 24 so that the stop lamp 7 and magnet 8 are energized in series. The magnet armature 9 is pulled down and if the switch 15 is moved to left or right to close the circuit of a left or right direction indicator, the end 12 of the armature engages one of the notches 16, 17 and holds the switch in operated position. When the pedal 7 is released, the magnet 8 de-energizes and the switch 15 is returned to normal by spring 23.
