Abstract

486,538. Mercury switches for vehicle signal lights. BADER, K. Dec. 4, 1936, No. 33355. [Class 38 (v)] [Also in Group XXXVIII] In order to cause the stop light of a vehicle to flash intermittently when the brake is applied, a mercury tube switch 1, arranged in series with the light and the ordinary brake-pedal-operated switch, is mounted on a pendulum 10, 11 which can swing in the direction of movement of the vehicle. The deceleration of the vehicle causes the pendulum to swing and operate the mercury switch. Where two stop lights are provided, one on each rearwing, two switches on a single pendulum or a multipole switch may be used +o illuminate the lights either simultaneously or alternately.
