Abstract
458,786. Detecting approach of overtaking vehicles. BOSCH AKT.-GES., R., 4, Militõrstrasse, Stuttgart, Germany. June 27, 1935, Nos. 18382 and 18383. Convention dates, June 28, 1934 and Aug. 9, 1934. [Class 118 (ii)] A signal, controlled by the horn of an overtaking vehicle, is maintained until cleared by the driver, the clearing operation lighting a " pass " lamp at the rear of the overtaken vehicle or in an alternative form, lighting either a " pass " or a " danger " lamp. As shown in Fig. 1, when switch 2 is closed, signal 11 operates to show the apparatus is functioning. To set the apparatus, key 13 is depressed, relay 5 energizing and holding, breaking the circuit of signal 11. When microphone 4 is influenced by sound waves, relay 5 releases so that signal 11 is operated. To signal that it is safe for the overtaking vehicle to pass, key 13 is depressed, lighting " pass " lamp 12 at the rear of the vehicle and re-energizing relay 5 to release the signal 11 and reset the apparatus. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 4, the relay 32 is an alternating current relay energized by current filtered from the microphone circuit by choke 23, and condensers, the relay being held, when energized by the direct current winding 34, in series with the signal 11. In this embodiment two reply lamps 12, 39 are provided controlled by keys 19 and 38 so that " pass " or " danger " replies can be given.
