Abstract
651,239. Locking levers. SMITH & SONS (ENGLAND), Ltd., S., and WOOD, F. H. Dec. 1, 1948, No. 31160. [Class 80(iii)] A detent 16, loaded by a spring blade 20 and having both rectilinear and pivoting movement about a stationary pin 15 engaged in a slot 18 thereof, provides, by an L-shaped slot 17 having a hook-shaped portion 19, an intermediate detaining position between two limiting positions of a lever 12 pivoted at 13 and loaded by a spring 22. In one limiting position, Fig. 1, the spring 20 loads the detent 16 in a clockwise direction, but on clockwise movement of the lever 12 its pin 14 engages the hook 19 to move the detent 16 upwardly to the immediate position, Fig. 4, wherein the spring 20 then loads the detent 16 in an anticlockwise direction following movement of the free end of the spring 20 past the pin 15. The detent 16 moves in this direction on slight reversal of the lever 12 which is then permitted further clockwise movement to the other limiting position, Fig. 6. The Provisional Specification states that the mechanism is particularly suitable for levers of multi-position electric switches or change speed gear boxes.
