Abstract
870,122. Retractive switches; snap-action switches. SQUARE D CO. Dec. 30, 1957 [Dec. 31, 1956], No. 40238/57. Class 38 (5). A control member 23 is pivoted for movement to operate any one of a number, e.g. 4, of switch actuating toggles, which may be adjusted to operate with or without a snap-action. Each toggle has a lever 25 pivoted at 26 and having notches 45, 46, one of which is engaged by a pin 44 on a rod 40 carrying a spring 42, and pivoted at 43. If notch 45 is used, the toggle is retractive, but if 46 is used the toggle is movable with a snap-action across a dead centre. The levers 25 have lugs 47 which co-operate with actuating buttons 52 of switches 50. The member 23 is movable in 4 directions at right angles as allowed by a cruciform gate 58 and cooperates with arms 61 of levers 25 to actuate the toggles in one direction. If the toggles go over dead centre, they are restored by the engagement of a disc 39 with the lever 25. The levers can be locked against accidental operation by the co-operation of bars 34 and an enlarged part 36 carried by a plunger 30, which is slidable within the member 23 to permit operation. The member 23 is sealed into the casing by washers 13, 19 and the casing sealed to a panel by a washer 15.
